Today I sit down with my buddy Nick Berube, aka WineCommGuy. During our conversation, we share a bit of knowledge about an old California AVA, that just doesn’t have the recognition that it’s neighboring AVA, Napa has. YET!  We were privileged to have received samples from 5 of the 12 wineries in the AVA. As you listen, you will learn that Suisun Valley AVA is one that should be on your radar.

We are all familiar with Tempranillo, from the Rioja region, but in this seminar, we also learned about  Graciano, Garnacha and the white grape variety, Viura.

Today on the podcast I am sharing a recording from a virtual tasting that I attended hosted by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation. When we hear Finger Lakes wine, I think the majority of us immediately think of Riesling. And although the Finger Lakes makes quality Riesling, there is another white grape that does exceptionally well there. Chardonnay. In fact, it is the second most widely planted variety in the region. 

The tasting was moderated by Dan Belmont, American Wine Expert and holds a WSET L3 certification.

I was sent three sample Chardonnay’s from

Alex Rosanelli, Winemaker

Alongside the Chardonnay, I received cheddar cheese from Cabot cheese. A compliment of different cheddar cheeses that will pair perfectly with the three Chardonnays.

Ugni Blanc is also known as Trebbiano and an Italian wine grape, one of the most widely planted grape varieties in the world. Its high acidity makes it important in Cognac.
