Booting 2020 Out the Door with Wine
Monday Jan 18, 2021
Monday Jan 18, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sitting down with a group of wine writer friends for another episode of Wine Writers’ Wrap Up.
RIDDLE: Why are hyenas the healthiest of all animals? (scroll down for answer)
It’s been a while since we have gotten together, so I figured what better way to welcome a new year than with wine and friends. During the discussion, we give our top wine of 2020, what wines we drank to ring in the new year, and what weird traditions we celebrate to boot the old year out. Because, quite honestly, there hasn’t been a year, we all are happier to see gone than 2020.

Michael Kelly - California Wines and Wineries
Nick Berube - Wine Comm Guy
Susannah Gold - Vigneto Communications

Val d'Oca Prosecco

Monday Jan 04, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass!
Today I am virtually taking you to Italy! Where the prosecco flows and the food is phenomenal. I seriously don’t think there is any place on this earth that has better food than Italy. Today, we are talking about Val’dOca, a cooperative winery that was established in 1952. The cooperative was created by 129 founding members in order to revive the economy after it was devastated by WWII. The zoom meeting was hosted by Susannah Gold of Vigneto Communications. We spoke with Lorenzo Rispoli, Export Manager of Val D'Oca, learned how to make prosecco cocktails with Amy Zavatto, Author/Journalist, Prosecco Made Me Do It: 60 Seriously Sparkling Cocktail and drooled over Silvia Baldini, Chef, Owner Strawberry and Sage risotto! There is a lot happening in this episode, so I hope you enjoy!

Bordeaux Terroir; Soil Makes the Difference
Monday Dec 28, 2020
Monday Dec 28, 2020
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing with you a Zoom event I attended about Bordeaux Terroir. Terroir is defined as the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate. It also relates to the characteristic taste and flavor imparted to a wine by the environment in which it is produced.
Bordeaux is a very regulated wine region and I am a believer that you can taste their soils in the glass. Whether you are in the Left or the Right Bank, within the AOCs there are differences that present themselves in the glass. Join me as I learn more about the soils of Bordeaux in this seminar presented by Benchmark Wine.
Please take a moment to swipe to subscribe, rate and review the podcast-and don’t forget to tell your wine loving friends about Exploring the Wine Glass.

Nebbiolo on Winephabet Street
Monday Dec 21, 2020
Monday Dec 21, 2020
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am returning to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is N and it stands for Nebbiolo.
When you think or hear Nebbiolo, you must travel to Italy. Nebbiolo’s history began, and some will say, still remains in Piedmonte. The first mention of Nebbiolo is way back in the 1200s. The first quote seems to be that of "Documents on the History of Piedmont," where it appears that in 1268 this grape varietal was cultivated in Rivoli, in the hills of Turin.
Join me as Debbie and I discuss the history, general characteristics and food pairing suggestions for Nebbiolo. While you’re listening, please take a moment to swipe, subscribe, rate and review the podcast!

Delia Viader; Wine Mother - Viader Vineyards
Monday Dec 14, 2020
Monday Dec 14, 2020
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! There is a quote by Linda Wooten states that motherhood is learning about strengths you didn’t know you had.. and dealing with fears you didn’t know existed. Well, that statement is definitely true when it come to
Delia of Viader Vineyards! She calls herself the ‘Wine Mother.’ As she claims I'm the mother of the vines; and the mother of the wines; and the mother of the wine maker.” That is a lot of mothering!
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Delia to discuss what it is like to be woman in the wine world. What it was like to see a piece of property on Howell Mountain and, without any true wine background, know that she could make a name for herself as a vineyard owner and a winemaker.
We talked about why making wines from “Above the Clouds” equates to a very specific profile that no matter the winemaker, the wine always speaks to being Howell Mountain. And we discuss what it was like to be in the middle of the horrific fires and see flames all around you.
While you are listening, If you like what you hear, please give us a 5 star review, and tell us what you love about the podcast. Each review helps others find us! We truly do appreciate your support.

Wines of Moldova
Monday Dec 07, 2020
Monday Dec 07, 2020
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Before we get into today’s podcast, I would like to thank everyone who took to social media this past Friday to celebrate Cab Franc Day. As the founder of the holiday, it warms my soul to see so many winelovers who believe, as I do, that Cabernet Franc is more than a blending grape.
In today’s podcast, I am taking you to a small European country that has a history rich in winemaking. A country that is described by Master of Wine Caroline Gilby as lying to the east of Romania with Ukraine on its eastern border. It’s a small country, with a population currently estimated at around 3.5 million (for comparison Romania is just over 19 million and Ukraine over 43 million). There are direct flights to Moldova’s capital Chisinau from major European cities like London, Frankfurt, Vienna and Bucharest, so not hard to get to. Then it’s a short taxi ride into the city itself.
The podcast is a recording from a live event recorded in early November to discuss Moldovia’s National Wine Day.

A Wine Love Story
Monday Nov 30, 2020
Monday Nov 30, 2020
With Cab Franc Day nearly upon us, I thought I would continue with another Best of Podcast. The original episode which dropped in April of 2018 has over 600 downloads. I think it is a fan favorite. It was called "In the Wind of Pleasure."
Today, I am going to read you a story. A story like no other wine story you have ever heard before. It is a story of romance, ok, maybe not romance, more like lust and seduction. The story of an innocent girl, Sauvignon Blanc who falls for troubled man, Cabernet Franc, and endures his wildness and anti-social behavior. But ultimately they come together to create one of the most well known children in the world (Cabernet Sauvignon) I hope you enjoy this tale, and maybe you should listen to this one using earbuds!

Today I’m bringing you a “Best Of” episode. In just over a week, it will be #CabFrancDay, so I thought it was a good idea to revisit my episode California Cab Franc; No Longer in the Shadow of its Progeny. I hope that you have a nice bottle of Cab Franc already in your home, but if not, there is still time to grab a bottle. Turn to your favorite or maybe try a new one! Dracaena Wines IS the reason there is a Cab Franc Day, so maybe now is the perfect time to place that order with them! Then, on December 4th, at 5pm PT, join me on Twitter for the annual #CabFrancDay twitter chat. Just follow hashtag CabFrancDay.

Monastrell on Winephabet Street
Monday Nov 16, 2020
Monday Nov 16, 2020
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today on Winephabet Street the letter of the day is M and it stands for Monastrell. The thick black skinned grape Monastrell, is the native Spanish name for what is known as Mataro in Australia and Mourvedre here in America. Our special guest is Nicholas Hammeken founder and CEO of Hammeken Cellars which was founded in 1996. They create wines that gather the best of the Spanish local grapes and traditions, with the winemaking style and techniques of the "New World".
