As we continue to social isolate, there seems to be more and more time for television. I actually finally signed up for Netflix – I may have been the last person on earth who wasn’t watching Tiger King – and now, I must admit it is freak show that you just can’t turn away from.
When I wasn’t watching the freak show, I scrolled over to Amazon Prime and found a movie titled Tin City. I was introduced to the film late last year through an email from a marketing team, but never had time to watch, so I figured, now was as good a time as any.
For anyone who follows my blog or listens to this podcast, you know that I adore Paso Robles. That’s where we chose to start our winery and where we see ourselves for the rest of our lives, and we have personally seen how Tin City has grown. Not only has it grown, but it has played a major role in the increasing recognition that Paso Robles has seen. Plus, it is just a great place to visit. You will often see us there, especially after a long day of wine sitting and enjoying some Barrel House Brew.
Enjoy listening as I interview Dina Mande, director and producer of the film, Tin City. - "A documentary featuring rebellious creative winemakers, brewers and distillers working at the razor's edge of their craft. "

Exploring Rias Baixas Albarino
Monday Apr 20, 2020
Monday Apr 20, 2020
I hope that my podcasts are helping you through the long days of social distancing. As we begin another week, I wish safety and health to all of you.
Today’s podcast is another virtual tasting trip. This one took me to, although I have never been, one of my favorite places on earth. I can close my eyes and take a sip of wine from this region and I can see myself walking on a stunning sand beach. I imagine myself in the center of the most beautifully green land that I have ever seen. There are women diving for crustaceans and of course there is wine.
Although the region does produce some lovely red wines, they are known for their whites. Their reputation for salinity and acidity in their wines, makes winelovers crave them. And today a group of wine lovers got together over Zoom, and enjoyed a glass of Albarino together while learning about the magnificent wine region known as Rias Baixas.
Thank you to Gregory and Vine for arranging this happy hour and thanks to the wonderful wine educators , Rick Fisher and Kat Thomas for leading the journey.

What the Heck is a Unicorn Wine?
Monday Apr 13, 2020
Monday Apr 13, 2020
Hi everyone! Welcome to Exploring the Wine Glass. On today’s episode, I am sitting down with some wine friends to bring you another installment of Wine Writer’s Wrap Up. With all that is going on in the world, I needed a happy break. I wanted a little reprieve from all the bad and just wanted to have a conversation about something we all love.. wine!
I had one rule for the discussion and that was THERE COULD BE NO MENTION OF COVID-19 OR SOCIAL DISTANCING. So I hope you enjoy this one hour reprieve from all the insanity, as we discuss the concept of a unicorn wine. Interestingly enough, I thought this was a common term, but as I learned, it is not as wide spread a concept as I had originally thought. Have you heard of a unicorn wine? Do you have a unicorn wine? What would you do if you finally acquired your unicorn wine? These are some of the questions we ponder during the chat.
Please take the time to subscribe, rate and review Exploring the Wine Glass and if you are on the socials, please give me a shout out and let me know your thoughts on unicorn wines!

Virtual Tasting of LAN Culmen
Monday Apr 06, 2020
Monday Apr 06, 2020
As we go into I have no idea what day of self quarantine we are in, I hope this podcast finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. I keep hearing the term “new normal” and I refuse to accept that term. It is not the new normal- it is the new temporary and if we all do what is being asked and stay socially distant, this too will pass.
I have said over and over that the wine world is an incredible place and I am so honored to be part of it. That has become even more apparent during this time. Many of us would be typically heading to the big cities at least once a week during March and April to attend wine events and these have all, for obvious reasons, been cancelled. But, we don’t just go for the wine.. alright, the wine is a huge perk, but I have created in real life friendships with so many people, and seeing them at these events is really what makes them special.
Luckily, we are also determined people. Hell hath no fury like a wine lover without wine! Many wineries have sensed that we need an outlet and have graciously turned to Zoom to have virtual tasting events, so we can not only taste their wines, but see our friends faces again. In the coming weeks, I will be sharing some of these events with you. I hope you not only enjoy learning about the wines but also the comradery that this amazing group of people have.
On today's episode, I am enjoying a glass of LAN Culmen, thanks to the wonderful people of Gregory and Vine for arranging the get together.
Stay Safe. Slainte

Fume Blanc on Winephabet Street
Monday Mar 30, 2020
Monday Mar 30, 2020
Welcome to another episode of Exploring the Wine Glass brought to you by Dracaena Wines. Today, we are returning to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is F and it stands for Fume Blanc.
Have you had a fume blanc before? Even if you said no, I’m guessing you actually have. I’m going to give a little spoiler alert for the podcast right now, but Fume Blanc is Sauvignon Blanc and I am pretty sure almost every wine lover out there has had Sauvignon Blanc at some time in their lives.
Join Debbie and me today as we discuss the history of Fume Blanc – where that name came from and why its not called Sauvignon Blanc, the general characteristics including a little pyrazine study and some food pairings to go along with your glass of Fume Blanc.
So unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and enjoy listening to this episode Winephabet Street. And please help me out by rating and reviewing the podcast.

Strong Women Make Big Bordeaux Bottles
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Monday Mar 23, 2020
Welcome to another episode of Exploring the Wine Glass. In early March, there was an incredible event happening in New York City, called Strong Women Make Big Bordeaux Bottles and I was privileged to have been invited to attend. The massive on taking involved 65 of New York’s top restaurants & wine bars celebrating women in winemaking, with a limited selection of Bordeaux wines-by-the-glass all poured from double magnum bottles.
Unfortunately, I had hip surgery the previous week and was unable to attend. But thanks to the hard work of Stefanie Schwalb of Gregory and Vine, I was able to interview three of these amazing women. We talk about male vs female roles and views in the wine industry, the romance of pouring from large format, what it’s like living and working in an industry that has such a long tradition and the feeling you get when you see someone enjoying the fruits of your labor.

The Good and the Bad of Open That Bottle Night
Monday Mar 16, 2020
Monday Mar 16, 2020
It’s simple to make any day a special day with wine. It doesn’t even matter if you are together! For this year’s celebration, I got together virtually with some of my wine loving friends and we shared a glass or few as we discussed our thoughts on the holiday.
I get it, you were out of your mind one day and threw all caution to the wind and paid more money for that bottle than you do for food for a month, but special occasions are made by you not the wine. So make today the last time you have to celebrate “Open that bottle” night and live each day as if it’s your last. Drink the dang bottle of wine you dream about whenever you want. Don’t wait for the special day to come to you- reach out and grab the day by the horns and make any day your special day!
Joining me in the conversation are:

Allure of the Pour; Rescued Heart Cellars

Monday Mar 09, 2020
Hi everyone! If you are a regular listener to my podcast you know that I have a very special place in my heart for dogs. In full disclosure given the choice between being in a room of people or a room of dogs…. Well- I’ll take the dogs – and I am as much an extrovert as can possibly be.
About 8 years ago, Mike and I walked into a home who had a weimaraner named Zero. Two seconds into the home, there was no way I was going to leave this poor baby in that home. So our house once again became a home – but we couldn’t deal with the name so we changed it to Vegas. We figured he was a pretty lucky dog, so the name fit..
A few months ago on Instagram, I ran across an account called Rescued Heart Cellars. I read their story and I was hooked. They have a not for profit brand that helps rescue animals in Arizona. We have been trying to get together for this interview for quite some time and I am so happy to now be able to share their story. But as a warning, this interview is bit of a tear jerker. Between the two of us, we may have had some moments that words were a little tough to get out, but please bear with us, because it is a Wonderful story of a short but Wonderful Life!

Egri Bikaver on Winephabet Street
Monday Mar 02, 2020
Monday Mar 02, 2020
Egri Bikaver is named after the region known for its production, Eger. Eger is a short 2 hour drive east from Budapest. It is located between Budapest and Tokaj, and is the site of the 16th century battle between the Hungarians and the Ottomans. The vineyards in the region are close to the mountains which provides for a cool climate. A region that had to survive Socialism, where quantity not quality was rewarded, Egri has only been working on its quality for about 20 years, but it has come a long way in that short time. So unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and join us today to learn more about this famous Hungarian blend. And please.. take a brief moment of your time to rate and review Exploring the Wine Glass and please don’t hesitate to send me an email about a topic you would like me to discuss on a future podcast.

Master Class; Barbaresco and Barolo
Monday Feb 24, 2020
Monday Feb 24, 2020
Thanks for tuning in to another episode of Exploring the Wine Glass. Today is all about Nebbiolo! I had the honor to attend BBWO2020 in NYC in February with over 200 wineries present. The event was hosted by the Conzorzio di Tutela Barolo, Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani which, has been protecting and promoting the identity of their wines since 1934.
The event included both Barolo and Barbaresco. Although both are made with 100% Nebbiolo, they are named after their distinct regions in Piedmont, Italy. When tasting Nebbiolo, you can expect a wine that is full of aromatics including florals, cherries, and dark berries along with flavors of earth, forest floor and dark fruits. The tannins are high as well as the acidity, but are balanced so well, you crave the next sip.
Join in today and learn about the regions, soils and the regulations of the Geographical Definitions as explained by Alessandro Masnaghetti.
