It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is R for Riesling!
The history of Riesling isn’t exactly crystal clear. It is presumed that it originated in Germany. If you look to France, you immediately go to Alsace, but if you are looking to California for Riesling, one name comes top of mind, Smith Madrone Winery in St. Helena.
We sat down with Stu Smith and discussed Riesling’s murky history, how Riesling is such a variable grape, one of only few that is produced in all styles from dry to sweet, and stories of how Smith Madrone led the way to being allowed to call the wine Riesling vs. Johannesburg Riesling. In true Stu fashion, we go off the rails a bit… but that is always where the fun happens!

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing a glass of wine with Jim Moroney of Six Mile Bridge Winery in Paso Robles.
We discussed our love of the Emerald Isle, how Six Mile Bridge got its name and how that obscure image on the label is NOT a ring! It is a lasting symbol of an extremely eventful day in Sixmilebridge.
And what happens when you get two Irish people talking about Ireland… the brogue comes out! I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! For the love of Cabernet Franc! That is what is on the podcast today. There are so many Cab Franc lovers out there and we are united in the fact that we want to prove that it is more than a blending grape.
Cristian Vallejo is the winemaker for VIK Winery in Chile and thanks to social media we “met.” After a few back and forths on INstagram, we arranged a time to sit down and talk about VIK wines, Cabernet Franc around the world and how he farms the vines in a new to me way!

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! With every vintage a winery has so many decisions to make. Many are about the vineyards and the fruit, but others are purely judgments about marketing. What will make the customers pick up their bottle of wine over another bottle that is right next to it.
Today on the podcast, I sit down with some wine lovers and we discuss whether we agree or disagree with the decisions that were made. Joining me in the conversation is Michael Kelly of California Wines and Wineries, Susannah Gold of Vigneto Communications and Luciana Braz of Wine Talk Group.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street, where the letter of the day is Q. There are a lot of wine terms, regions and varieties out there, but Q is a bit tough. In season 1, we visited Quarts de Chaume, so be sure to go back and listen to that podcast if you missed it. But today, we are taking your questions and answering them on Winephabet Street.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sitting down with Josh Harp, head winemaker for Jada Vineyards in Paso Robles.
What do you get when you cross a veteran cardiac thoracic surgeon whose family emigrated to New York, with a Jersey girl? You get an incredible winery in Paso Robles. Jada Vineyards is located on the West Side of Paso Robles in the Willow District. If you have had the pleasure of visiting their tasting room, you will always remember the 360 degree vineyard views. Jada Vineyards wines have received some monster scores lately and I can tell you first hand the scores are well deserved.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street to learn about the letter P, Petite Sirah! Often confused by new winelovers as just a smaller version of Syrah or Shiraz, it is in fact a completely different variety.
Petite Sirah, also known as Durif, is a man-made variety that resulted from a cross between Syrah and Peloursin. The objective of the cross was to make a grape variety that is resistant to powdery mildew. It was first brought to California in 1884 by Charles McIver and had a similar history to Zinfandel during Prohibition thanks to its ability to travel cross country well.
I had the privilege of sitting down with Steve Tenbrink of Tenbrink Cellars and his daughter Lisa Howard of Tolenas Winery in Suisun Valley, California. Petite Sirah Capital of the World.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sitting down with a group of wine writing friends to discuss some crazy wine laws. We know that the 3-tier system is a crazy enough, but these laws are downright insane! We can’t even begin to figure out what was going through the legislatures’ minds when they wrote these laws. For example: In New Jersey, if you are arrested for drunk driving, you have to pay the fine, BUT you are no longer eligible for vanity plates! Oh the horror! We had a few laughs on this one and I hope you do too!
Riddle: What is brown, has a head and a tail, but no legs? Scroll down for the answer.
Joining me is:
Debbie Gioquindo- HV WineGoddess
Maria Ferrora Beardsley - Wine Cheese Friday
Linda Whipple - My Full Wine Glass
Michael Kelly - California Wines and Wineries
Anatoli Levine - Talk-a-Vino
