Jumilla in NYC; History and Tasting
Monday Mar 06, 2023
Monday Mar 06, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! If you are familiar with me or this podcast, you know how much I love Spanish wine.
Today I am sharing a recording about the wines of Jumilla. The Great Spain Match was held at Little Spain in NYC. It was a perfect location to celebrate the wines of this supra-automous region. Although the majority of the wine is produced in the Murcia DO, vineyards are also found in Castile-La Mancha. The region experiences a continental climate with mediterranean influences and is located on the Altiplano range. The vineyards are up to 2600 ft. ABS and 96% of the wines are red, primarily Monastrell.

Federdoc; Traceability and Regulation of Italian DOC Wines

Sunday Feb 26, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! A few months ago, I took the drive down to Los Angeles to attend an IEEM conference, Simply Italian Great Wines.
Today I am sharing the recording of the Master class about Federdoc. This consorzio is a Voluntary Consortia National Confederation for the Protection of the Italian Wines Designations that was established in 1979. The conversation highlights the traceability and regulation of Italian DOC wines, with a focus on Franciacorta DOC.

Monday Feb 20, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! A few months ago, I had the pleasure of attending a Master class on Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC.
Today I am sharing the recording of that Master class run by Regine Rousseau of Shall We Wine. This isn’t your ordinary boring Pinot Grigio of the past, these wines have a lot to offer and the consorzio regulates the wine from vineyard to bottle. Give a listen to learn why these wines should be on your radar.

It is difficult to believe that this episode aired two years ago. It was a phenomenal discussion, sponsored by Paso Robles Wine Alliance. Hondarrabi Zuri on Winephabet Street

Monday Jan 23, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, we return to Winephabet Street, where the letter of the day is H.
I was so excited for this episode. Anytime I can talk about a Spanish region or grape variety, I am happy! Which is one of the reasons why I decided to go through the Spanish Wine Scholar program. For the letter H, we chose Hondarrabi Zuri from the autonomous region Pais Vasco. Seen on a label as Txakoli, the white grape variety is a slightly sparkling, very dry white wine with high acidity and low alcohol. And who would we ask to be our guest? Of course Rick Fisher - The Spanish Wine Guy.

An Introduction to Jumilla
Monday Jan 09, 2023
Monday Jan 09, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I am sharing an exciting conversation with some producers in Jumilla, Spain
Jumilla DO is located in south eastern Spain and is a supra-autonomous region. This means that it spans across two separate regions; Castilla La Mancha and Murcia. The only other two DOs that have this qualification are Rioja and Cava. The winemakers here are dedicated to sustainable farming and although there are many varieties produced in the region, Monastrell is the Queen.

Monday Dec 26, 2022
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! On today’s episode I sit down with Sofia Rivier, Ettore’s Director of Wine Production. Sofia oversees all vineyard and cellar operations for the winery located in Mendocino County
I was provided a sample of their Chardonnay and when I was looking into the winery, I read about a specific way they make some of their wines called Puro Vino. I was intrigued and reached out to see if Sofia would come on and explain the concept. We had some geeky moments, so enjoy!

Graciano on Winephabet Street
Monday Dec 19, 2022
Monday Dec 19, 2022
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is G and it stands for Graciano. Our guest sponsor for the episode is Jada Vineyards and our special guest is the one and only Josh Harp, This is his third time on the podcast and he continues to be a wealth of information.
Graciano is popular in Navarra and Rioja regions of Spain. It found its way to California and although not the most popular grape variety it is relatively quite a bit in Paso Robles. There were 280 tons crushed in 2021, which may not sound like a lot, but considering there were only 980 tons crushed across all of California that equates to 29% of all of the state.
