Yes Cocktail Co - Craft Cocktail Specialists
Monday Jan 17, 2022
Monday Jan 17, 2022
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I sit down with the husband and wife dynamic duo of craft cocktails. Together they created Yes Cocktail Co in Paso Robles.
I had a blast learning about craft cocktails. In complete disclosure, prior to the recording I had no idea what the difference was between a syrup, a shrub, a mixer and never mind bitters! But thanks to Lauren Butler and Brandon Alperts, who walked me through making two different cocktails, while explaining everything, I am on my way to joining the craft cocktail craze! Be sure to check out their website yescocktailco.com to find recipes and all your craft cocktail needs.
Before we get into the cocktail class, I would appreciate it if you could take a minute of your time to rate and review the podcast. It only takes a minute of your time, but it helps other wine lovers find Exploring the Wine Glass. And you can now rate and review on Spotify too! Thank you so much! Slainte!

Monday Jan 10, 2022
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I sit down with Julie St John of Pedroncelli Winery in Geyserville, CA.
For over 90 years, Pedroncelli Winery has been synonymous with Zinfandel but they offer so much more! As the 113th bonded winery, they know their way around the vineyards and what it takes to make quality wine.
Join me as I talk with Julie about what makes Dry Creek Valley so special, their two estate vineyards and why Zinfandel is America’s grape.

The Charming Taste of Europe
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Monday Jan 03, 2022
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing a wonderful trade tasting I attended in New York City.
The Charming Taste of Europe is a project that brings together the wine from Italy and France as well as fresh fruit from Greece. The presentation was hosted by Susannah Gold of Vigneto Communications and Abruzzo brand ambassador.
The event was held at the Il Gattapardo Restaurant in mid December. The event space is beautiful, but the acoustics leave a bit to be desired, so the sound quality of this episode is not stellar, but I promise it is worthy of your time to listen.
Before we get to the podcast I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! Let’s raise a glass as a toast to the future, a toast to the past, and a toast to our friends, far and near. May the best day of your past be the worst day of your future.

Drinking and Laughing at the Darwin Awards
Monday Dec 20, 2021
Monday Dec 20, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! When the clock struck 12 to kick 2020 out the door, so many thought 2021 would be better. Yet, here we are still in the grasp of covid, with another variant closing doors again. As we approach the last few days of 2021, I thought it was necessary to get some good laughs in.
This episode of Wine Writer Wrap up is a bit different. It’s not wine focused, rather, it is laugh centric! The Darwin awards are an annual somewhat spoof ceremony honoring the people who have passed away in the past from their own stupidity. During the episode I share some of the nominees and although it's sad they passed away, the circumstances in which they did are downright hysterical.

Oltrepo‘ Pavese
Monday Dec 13, 2021
Monday Dec 13, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing a webinar I attended hosted by Susannah Gold of Vignetto Communications about a little known wine region, making some incredible wines, Oltrepo Pavese.
Located in the north west region of Lombardy just south of the river Po,, the Oltrepò Pavese wine region is a well kept secret that is worthy of your attention. Best known for the Pinot Nero grape that is perfectly suited for the hills and mountains of which it is grown on.
Over 150 years ago, Count Augusto Giorgi di Vistarino believed that the climate, similar to Burgundy, would be ideal for the growing of Pinot Noir and imported the plant, and produced the first spumante of the Oltrepò. Since then, Pinot nero-based reds, whites and rosé wines are still being produced, along with Barbera, Riesling and Moscato.
I hope you enjoy the webinar as much as I did and when you are looking for your next wine, be sure to search for a bottle from Oltrepò.

Xarel.lo on Winephabet Street
Monday Nov 29, 2021
Monday Nov 29, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today we return to Winephabet Street, where the letter of the day is X and it stands for Xarel.lo.
When we decided that this month’s episode was going to be about the Spanish grape variety Xarel.lo, I immediately knew who to reach out to in order to get the most information possible - Rick Fisher; Spanish Programs Director for Wine Scholar Guild. He not only graciously agreed to come onto the show, but secured a Xarel.lo grower and winemaker; Ignasi Segui from Vinyes Singulars.
Xarel.lo is one of the three main grapes in Cava, but it can be found as a single varietal and in multiple expressions. By sheer dumb luck, each of us had a different expression of Xarel.lo. - Debbie had Cava, I had a still, Rick had an orange wine and Ignasi had a late harvest which made us all jealous!
The hour went fast and we learned so much. I know this episode is going to be a top rated one!

Albino Armani Pinot Grigio
Monday Nov 22, 2021
Monday Nov 22, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing a recording of a webinar that I attended hosted by Susannah Gold of Vigneto Communications.
It has been said that Pinot Grigio is the wine that is loved to be hated. It’s the scapegoat for simple wine. Wine without character. Wine without depth. The catch-all for what’s wrong with supermarket wine. Well, Albino Armani Pinot Grigio is turning heads and leading the charge in changing that opinion. It is a Pinot Grigio worthy of your love.

Social Media and Wine; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Monday Nov 15, 2021
Monday Nov 15, 2021
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sitting down with some other wine writers and we are discussing social media and wine.
It’s like a double edge sword. Social media is so important in our society today. Many people don’t watch the news anymore, or read the newspaper, they get their information from social media. Whether that’s good or bad, I don’t know, but when it comes to writing about wine and trying to share a story of a winery on social media.. What is the best avenue to take? How do you determine which of the many social media sites you should focus on? How do brands determine which, dare I say the word - influencer - they choose to share their story?
Is our society just scrolling and tapping their way through life? Or are they reading and comprehending what is on their phones? We get down to the good, the bad and the ugly of using social media in the wine world.

Waitaki Valley on Winephabet Street

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today on Winephabet Street the letter of the day is W and it stands for Waitaki Valley in New Zealand. We are so grateful to Dave Harlow of NZ Wine Navigator for helping us arrange this incredible interview with Jim Jerram of Ostler Wines. Flanked by the cool south Pacific Ocean to the east and the high peaks of the Southern Alps to the west, the Waitaki Valley is a relatively new wine region and home of the highest Mountain Aoraki-Mount Cook.
