It’s November and we it may not be Merlot Month anymore, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t show it some love. Today, I sit down with Michael Scholz of St. Supery Winery in Napa Valley. From Corsica to Napa; St. Supery leads the way in sustainability with being Napa Green Land certified since 2008. Their dedication to quality is represented in the 2018 Rutherford Estate Vineyard Merlot.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I am returning to the love of all things Merlot! I had the pleasure of sitting down with Josh Harp, winemaker for Jada Vineyards in Paso Robles. The day started with a tour of the facility and a stroll around to see all the new things that are happening at the beautiful site on the West side of Paso. This is the second time I have had Josh on the podcast. If you would like to listen to the first one, it is episode 201. In that episode we talk more about the winery and its beginnings - including why they have a wine called Jersey Girl! During the interview, which was recorded on site, you may hear some background noise as it was recorded at the winery and a few head shakes from Vegas as he was visiting the dog friendly Jada Vineyards with me.

Today, we return to Winephabet Street where the letter of the day is “F” and it stands for Frappato. We had the honor of talking with Pietro Russo, head winemaker for Donnafugata winery in Sicily. Frappato is a component, with Nero d'Avola, of the island's only DOCG wine, Cerasuolo di Vittoria. We talked about the grape’s history, general characteristics, and food pairings and had the pleasure of tasting the incredible wine.

Today, I am bringing you something special for Halloween. There is a lot of history tied to wine and wineries and where there is history, there are stories of ghosts. I love ghost stories. I have been known to try to call out ghosts, much to the embarrassment of my husband and friends. I have requested specific rooms that ghosts have been reported to frequent. In the end, I have come to the conclusion that I am just too eager for the ghosts, because they never show themselves to me. But there is always another hotel or winery, so I’ll keep trying!

We talk about the impact the Santa Lucia Mtns have on the vineyards and the impact climate has on the final Merlot product. We taste through a vertical, comparing the 2016 and 2017 vintage.
