It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sitting down with Glenn Hugo, the winemaker for Girard Winery in Napa Valley.
Glenn is originally from Texas, but his love of wine brought him to Napa. After working in the industry as a General Manager at a wine bar and a few other odds and ends, he found his way to being a harvest intern at Girard Winery. And as they say the rest is history.
Today he is the winemaker for a winery where you can taste all of Napa at one cellar door. With 16 nested AVAs in Napa, Girard winery harvests fruit from nine of them. All wine is produced in small batch fermentations in a new state of the art "ambitiously efficient” winery, not only are they passionate about producing quality wine, they are dedicated to preserving the land.

Today I am virtually traveling to Spain and am discussing everything Albarino. I am chatting with Diego Rios, winemaker for Bodegas Granzaban in one of my all time favorite wine regions- Rias Baixas. I continue to dream of visiting what is known as Green Spain and hopefully one day that dream will come true.

Today I am virtually traveling to Argentina and discussing sustainability. I am chatting with Guillermina van Houten, the sustainability expert for Tilia Wines. The first winery in the region to become sustainably certified. Sustainability is in their “blood” and it shows in their wines and their newly redesigned label.

I had a blast learning about craft cocktails. In complete disclosure, prior to the recording I had no idea what the difference was between a syrup, a shrub, a mixer and never mind bitters! But thanks to Lauren Butler and Brandon Alperts, who walked me through making two different cocktails, while explaining everything, I am on my way to joining the craft cocktail craze! It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today I am sharing a wonderful trade tasting I attended in New York City.
The Charming Taste of Europe is a project that brings together the wine from Italy and France as well as fresh fruit from Greece. The presentation was hosted by Susannah Gold of Vigneto Communications and Abruzzo brand ambassador.
The event was held at the Il Gattapardo Restaurant in mid December. The event space is beautiful, but the acoustics leave a bit to be desired, so the sound quality of this episode is not stellar, but I promise it is worthy of your time to listen.
