It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass!
Today, we return to an Allure of the Pour episode. I sat down with Gonzalo Bertelsen, head winemaker for Viñedos Veramonte in Chile. This past Saturday was Earth Day, and I hope everyone listening raised a glass and did one extra thing to help preserve our little planet. Veramonte is all in when in comes to protecting the environment. The beautiful design on their labels represents the “living soils” that are a result of their 100% organic and sustainable farming.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass!
Today, I am sharing a Master Class on The Many Faces of Tempranillo. The event took place at Soulmate in Los Angeles and was sponsored by the Food and Wines of Spain. The audio was a bit difficult to manipulate to equal in volume throughout, so I do apologize for that, but it was a wonderful presentation by Master Sommelier Chris Gaither. He is not just knowledgeable, but very funny. I hope you enjoy

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass!
Today, I am sharing a Master Class on Cab Franc and Cab Franc Day. As the founder of Cab Franc Day, it always blows my mind when I see an event like this happening. Thanks to Neeta and Kunal Mittal of LXV in Paso Robles for putting together this incredible event. Thanks to Wes Hagen for his wonderful presentation celebrating the best grape variety!
The event took place in a large barrel room, so I apologize upfront for the quality of the sound, but I hope you stick it out because there is great conversation and the comparative tasting is extremely educational.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass!
Today, we return to Winephabet Street, where the letter of the day is J and it stands for Jampal! Never heard of it? There’s a good reason for that. There are only approximately 32 hectares planted. It is an indigenous grape variety from Portugal, and we had the opportunity to learn all about it with Master of Wine Dirceau Vianna Junior. Special thanks to Wines of Portugal US Ambassador, Eugenio Jardim, for helping organize the interview. Franco Caputo of Italian Products & Beyond for arranging delivery of the wine and Allison Levine of Please the Palate for making the introduction.

Monday Mar 20, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, I am sitting down with Joe Nielsen of Ram’s Gate Winery in Sonoma.
Winemakers come from a variety of backgrounds, but it isn’t too often you hear about one coming from Michigan and having to petition a school to allow him access into their newly created oenology program, because he wasn’t 21 years old yet!
As General Manager and Winemaker at Ram’s Gate Winery, Joe approaches winemaking from all angles: driving sustainable farming practices, sourcing small-gem vineyards, using family owned coopers, as well as introducing native and whole-cluster fermentation.

Isabella Grape on Winephabet Street

Monday Mar 13, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Today, we return to Winephabet Street. The letter of the day is I and we are discussing the grape variety, Isabella.
These are exciting episodes for me, because prior to setting up the schedule for this season, I had never heard of this grape variety. So it was a great learning experience for me too! We had hybrid grape specialist Steven Casscles on to answer all of our questions. Sadly, we were not able to acquire a bottle to taste, but Steve did a fantastic job of describing its qualities, both in the glass and in the vineyard.

Jumilla in NYC; History and Tasting

Monday Mar 06, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! If you are familiar with me or this podcast, you know how much I love Spanish wine.
Today I am sharing a recording about the wines of Jumilla. The Great Spain Match was held at Little Spain in NYC. It was a perfect location to celebrate the wines of this supra-automous region. Although the majority of the wine is produced in the Murcia DO, vineyards are also found in Castile-La Mancha. The region experiences a continental climate with mediterranean influences and is located on the Altiplano range. The vineyards are up to 2600 ft. ABS and 96% of the wines are red, primarily Monastrell.

Federdoc; Traceability and Regulation of Italian DOC Wines

Sunday Feb 26, 2023
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! A few months ago, I took the drive down to Los Angeles to attend an IEEM conference, Simply Italian Great Wines.
Today I am sharing the recording of the Master class about Federdoc. This consorzio is a Voluntary Consortia National Confederation for the Protection of the Italian Wines Designations that was established in 1979. The conversation highlights the traceability and regulation of Italian DOC wines, with a focus on Franciacorta DOC.

It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! A few months ago, I had the pleasure of attending a Master class on Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC.
Today I am sharing the recording of that Master class run by Regine Rousseau of Shall We Wine. This isn’t your ordinary boring Pinot Grigio of the past, these wines have a lot to offer and the consorzio regulates the wine from vineyard to bottle. Give a listen to learn why these wines should be on your radar.
